The County Administrative Board is a driving force for a sustainable society. We work together with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other stakeholders focusing on Västra Götaland County and our 1.7 million residents. The County Administrative Board has a broad operation and a very important role in several areas of society. This includes the highly relevant challenges of regional growth, implementing the green transition, developing civil defense, and nurturing democracy.
The County Administrative Board is a regional government agency with about 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We operate in several locations in Västra Götaland but also throughout Sweden as we are responsible for the IT operations for all County Administrative Boards.

The Assignment
On election day, the country's municipalities tally the votes in a preliminary calculation; the County Administrative Board's role is to then count all the votes finally. This responsibility means that the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland counts, checks, and compiles the election results for the county in the elections for the parliament, regional council, and municipal council. The County Administrative Board is now seeking employees for the final tally of votes in the 2026 election. The votes from the election on September 13 will be recounted over about two weeks starting Monday, September 14. The tally will continue until it is complete but is expected to take about two weeks. The counting will take place in Gothenburg.
Job Duties
We are looking for a total of about 300 vote counters for the tally of votes in the elections for the parliament, regional council, and municipal council in 2026. As a vote counter, you will be responsible for counting, reviewing, assessing, and sorting ballots. The work is done together in a group of three. It is of utmost importance that you have the ability to efficiently carry out your work based on clearly set deadlines.
It may also be relevant to recruit supervisors, registrars, and archive staff. If you have experience working as a supervisor, registrar, or archive staff at the County Administrative Board in any previous election and are interested in working in any of those roles now, you can indicate in your application which of the positions you are interested in, in addition to your interest in the vote counter position.
As a supervisor, you will check the work of the vote counters. As a registrar, you will handle the registration of results in the computer and perform both proofreading and sorting. As archive staff, you will arrange for the release of what needs to be counted and document it, but also archive material from registrars.
The work is carried out in suitable premises adapted for functional variations.

Training and Start Date
Before the vote counting in September, you will receive the training you need during a mandatory training day in August, during week 34 or 35. Participation in the training is mandatory and a prerequisite for being considered for employment. The employment is an intermittent (temporary) position and will commence in connection with the training in August and will continue from September 14 until the election is counted, totaling about 10 days of work over two weeks.
The place of employment is Gothenburg.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Requirements
You must be at least 18 years old. You should be meticulous, quick, and have an easy time counting ballots effectively with legal security and good quality. Furthermore, you need to have good language skills in Swedish and be able to read and comprehend both printed and handwritten text. The work can at times be monotonous, which means you need to have good patience. As a person, you are methodical and structured, with a good ability to follow specified safety regulations. You thrive in structured environments, find it easy to work within given frameworks and rules, and have a natural interest in society. You are also meticulous and have a good ability to follow established routines and regulations. You have a good memory for numbers.
Meritorious
It is meritorious to have worked during the tallying of the general elections in 2022 or the election to the EU Parliament in 2024. Experience with similar tasks in connection with elections can be seen as meritorious.
It is also meritorious if you have an interest and understanding of the democratic process.

Good to Know
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day, starting either at 8:00 or 9:00. You will be assigned one of the start times.
A security check may be conducted for some of the positions.
